Cushion Cover Embroidery Part 3: Christmas Tree

Here is the third part of our cushion cover embroidery - the Christmas tree.
It's mainly done with stem stitch.
I had posted long back on stem stitch filling here.
I love the way this tree looks with this kind of stem stitch filling.

I have also used chain stitch and buttonhole wheels.

Basic Embroidery Stitches : Straight Stitch and Variations

Straight stitch is the most basic stitch of the hundreds of stitches used for embroidery.

Running stitch is orderly placed straight stitches in a row

A stitch that one need not 'learn', but, comes automatically when given a needle and thread. Probably, the foundation of most of the stitches

And, if one thinks out of the box, Stem stitch, Back stitch and even the Fish bone Stitch would seem to be variations of Straight Stitch.

Decorative Embroidery Stitches: Basque Knot Stitch

Basque Knot Stitch  

It is a decorative stitch used for borders. 

Other names are Basque loop stitch, knotted pearl stitch, knotted loop stitch.

Basque Knot Stitch Vs. Basque Stitch

Similar names, but, very different in appearance and the way the two stitches are worked.

Basque Stitch belongs to the family of chain stitches. Basque Knot Stitch is type of Knot Stitch.

Basque Stitch is worked from left to right, whereas, the latter is worked from right to left.

Basque Knot Stitch 

Here's how it is worked:

Bring the needle up at 'a', go down at 'b' and come up again at 'c'.

Decorative Embroidery Stitches : Basque Stitch

Basque Stitch is also known as Twisted Daisy Border Stitch. It is a combination of Detached Chain Stitch and Buttonhole Stitch.

It is a beautiful decorative stitch that can make any plain neckline of dresses look wonderful.
It can be used along with beads to enhance its beauty. It can be stitched with multicoloured threads to give a fabulous effect.

Basque Stitch whipped with another thread looks divine.

Let's see how this stitch is worked.

Doesn't this look like the flower shown in the picture below? It is called the Pieris japonica ' white'.

So here I go to experiment more on this.
Planning to use this for a neckline on my dress.

Red Work Clown

It's been an year when I started this project.
Last January in the pretext of practising some French knots I had started this Red work clown.

I am really happy to have finished this now. Winding up my incomplete projects one by one. 

Stitches used:

1. Body - Back stitch and French knots.

2. Hat - French knots, detached chain stitch, Herringbone Stitch and outlined by Back stitch.
3. Nose - Satin stitch
4. Eyebrows - Fly stitch to give curved appearance.
5. Eye lashes - Straight stitch

6. Ball - Cross stitch, French knots and Back Stitch. 

All the above stitches ( except Fly Stitch) are part of the Basic Embroidery Stitches posted earlier.
