Solid Granny Square Project In Progress

Do you remember the Solid Granny Square patten that was posted earlier ?

I made 18 Granny squares for a project .
I am still deciding on the yarn color and the method to be used for joining these squares.
Should be able to finish it this month.

 

I am Taking Part in Sophie’s Universe CAL 2015

I have finished the part 1 and 2 of the mystery CAL. A great opportunity to bust my stash and use up all the yarns that have been there for ages.

Embroidery Stitches For Leaves : Fishbone Stitch and Variations - 2

Two other variations of fishbone stitch are open fishbone and the leaf stitch.

3. Open Fishbone Stitch 

4. Leaf stitch

Leaf stitch is worked from bottom towards the tip.

The length a to c has to kept the maximum and continued up till the tip to get a good finish.

Now the needle is at a point similar to point 'c' in the previous picture. Continue stitching as shown thereafter.

Embroidery Stitches For Leaves : Fishbone Stitch and Variations - 1

I have prepared a list of possible stitches that can be used for embroidering leaves here 

The first stitch that comes to my mind with the thought of embroidering a leaf is the Fishbone Stitch. It is from the family of crossed stitches.
Here is the fishbone stitch and its few variations worked on leaves. 

1. Fishbone Stitch

Bring the needle up at the tip of the leaf.

Pass the needle at the point shown above on the central vein to a point just next to the tip on the left side.

Now, pass the needle from the central vein ( a little below the 1st stitch) to the right side just next to the tip of the leaf.

                            

 Continue working in a similar way

2. Raised Fishbone Stitch

It is also called as overlapping herringbone stitch / self padded herringbone stitch

Bring the needle up at the tip of the leaf. Pass the needle from b to c

Pick the fabric very close to the tip from 'e' to 'f'.

Pass the needle from g to h

Continue working in a similar way.

How to Make 

Magic ring with Ch3

 Row 1: Magic ring , (Ch3, 1dc),  (Ch2 , 3dc) 3 times , Ch2, 1dc 

How to join with the new color yarn : 

while joining to the 3rd Ch of beg Ch 3 pull out the different color yarn

Row 2 started

Row 2 : Ch 3, 1 dc, *( 2dc, Ch2, 2dc) in the corner ch2 space,  dc on next 3dc, 

Repeat from * 2 more times,

( 2dc, Ch2, 2dc) in the corner ch2 space, 1dc , join with new color.

Row 3 - till desired : continue as above - dc on each dc of previous round and 

( 2dc, Ch2, 2dc) in the corner ch2 space, join.

 

DIY Kid's Craft Using Plastic Bottle : A ladybug

My daughter made some of it in the school and we modified it by adding the wings antennae and those eyes.
Isn't the ladybug cute.

Materials used

• Plastic water bottle ( bottom part, the cap and curved side for the wings )
• Poster colors (Black, white and red )
• Small piece of newspaper for the antennae.
• Glue ( anything that sticks plastics)

Method

Cut the bottom part of the plastic bottle long enough that the cap of the bottle can be fixed easily on one side.

Cut the wings from the top curved portion of the bottle and shape it accordingly.

Paint the inner surface of the body parts with red poster color . Let it dry properly.
Add black dots on the outer surface of the plastic .
Paint the cap with black poster color.
Paint the eyes
Roll the newspaper tightly and fold and stick one side ( as seen in the picture) to resemble antenna. Paint the antennae with black color and stick it on the head using glue. 

Glue the parts together.

The ladybug is ready..........

Embroidery Stitches For Leaves : Buttonhole Stitch

We use many embroidery stitches for leaves.
Can you name at least 10 stitches that can be used to embroider leaves?
Sometimes it becomes difficult to select one.

I selected Horizontal and Vertical Moorish Lattice pattern from the Interlocking Crochet book.

The first two rows were fine but from the start of the third row something was not right and I tried few times but was not getting the same pattern as shown. That is when I saw this page. 
The correction for the pattern was given here . From then on crocheting was just wonderful.
